Ten Years, Ten Women: Dao

When Dao joined Better Me for Women, confidence was something she was still building. She felt unsure about using English and did not always feel confident when it came to planning ahead. She joined because she wanted to push herself further — to strengthen what she already knew, try things she had never done before, and become more confident in her own abilities.
What stayed with her after the program was more than a set of lessons. It was the determination to keep learning and keep moving forward. Dao became more confident, more thoughtful in the way she plans, and more open to new experiences. And sometimes, what she learned through Better Me has become something she can use to support others too.
One of the changes she is most proud of is her English. She may not have many opportunities to use it, but when the chance comes, she is no longer afraid to speak. For Dao, that is a meaningful shift. Confidence does not mean speaking perfectly — it means having the courage to try.

Better Me also became something deeply personal to her: a place where she could feel comfortable, accepted, and safe enough to share. Through the program, she met teachers, staff, and other women who brought different experiences and perspectives into her life.
Looking back, Dao is proud that she chose to take that first step.
And to another woman thinking about joining Better Me, her message is clear: open your mind and give yourself the chance to try. You may discover more knowledge, more confidence, and more possibilities than you expected.
