Bringing Future Planning Home: Preparing Girls for What Comes Next
During the COVID-19 period, disruptions to school life also limited opportunities for girls to receive guidance about their future. Yet questions about education, careers, and work did not disappear.
In November 2022, with support from Bangkok Recreational Volleyball, Pratthanadee Foundation distributed 441 Preparing for Success self-learning kits to girls through three schools in Ubon Ratchathani Province.
The kits brought practical future-planning guidance directly into girls’ homes, without requiring a live workshop or continuous internet access.
💬 Turning Future Questions into Practical Options
Through guided exercises, girls were encouraged to reflect on their strengths, interests, and goals, and connect these with possible education and career pathways.
The kits also introduced practical information on scholarships and student loans, the study and skills required for different careers, labour rights, safer job searching, and basic application steps.
Girls could work through the materials at their own pace and revisit them whenever needed.
Among girls who provided feedback, 73% rated the kit positively for helping them understand further education pathways and safer employment, while 63% rated it positively for helping them better understand themselves, their skills, and suitable options.
One girl simply shared:
“I was able to plan for the future.”
Another wrote:
“There are many things I can use in daily life.”
🔮Keeping Future Possibilities Open
A self-learning kit could not fully replace the conversation and interaction of a face-to-face workshop. But during a period when those opportunities were limited, it created another way for girls to continue exploring what might come next.
For us, the value was in keeping future possibilities open — giving girls practical information they could use to think about further education, careers, financial options, and safer work, even while learning from home.
