Empowering Girls with Knowledge for Their Futures: Family Planning Workshop in Northeastern Thailand

In August 2025, Pratthanadee Foundation, with the generous support of the OVOLPE Foundation, delivered a Family Planning Workshop to 503 girls across five schools in Ubon Ratchathani and Amnat Charoen provinces. The program addressed a critical education gap for adolescent girls, many of whom had never received practical family planning education before.
📚 Closing Knowledge Gaps
Before the workshop, most girls had little or no prior exposure to family planning. Test results showed average baseline scores of just 48%. After participating, scores rose dramatically to 99%, with 98% of girls improving their knowledge. The sessions covered sexual and reproductive rights, financial preparedness for parenthood, contraceptive options, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections.
🌟 Changing Perceptions
The workshops also encouraged girls to reflect on their readiness for parenthood. Many shifted their perspective toward later adulthood as the right time to start a family, linking parenthood with education, financial stability, and emotional maturity. Participants also revised their understanding of the true costs of raising children, demonstrating a more realistic view of family planning.
💬 Voices from the Girls
Girls described the sessions as fun, practical, and relevant to their lives. Many expressed that they gained knowledge not available at school, especially on rights, consent, and financial planning. Teachers echoed these sentiments, with 100% strongly agreeing that the workshops were beneficial and calling for expansion to reach more students and younger age groups.
I learned a lot about family planning, contraception, and life planning, as well as about organizations that provide support.— Feedback from participantI enjoyed participating in the activities and making new friends. The trainers were friendly and engaging, and I felt well cared for throughout the experience. I’m grateful for all the gifts — thank you to the team for bringing us joy and opportunities. Wishing you all the best!
Beyond Knowledge
The program was not only about information—it was about empowerment. Girls left with Student Kits containing tools for reflection, financial literacy resources, and referral contacts for safe reproductive health services. They also carried with them new confidence to make informed decisions about their futures.
