Building Knowledge and Confidence: Family Planning Workshop in Ubon Ratchathani

In August 2025, Pratthanadee Foundation delivered the Family Planning Workshop as part of the Better Me for Girls program, reaching 271 girls across three schools in Ubon Ratchathani province. Despite challenges such as border conflicts, heavy rains, and overlapping school activities, the workshops were delivered smoothly, with full engagement from students and teachers.
📚 Closing Gaps in Knowledge
Before joining, 91% of participants had never attended a family planning workshop, showing a major education gap. Pre-test scores averaged only 49%. After the sessions, scores rose to 94%, with 93% of girls improving their knowledge. The content covered sexual and reproductive rights, contraception, STI prevention, and readiness for parenthood — while also linking family planning to financial literacy and long-term decision-making.
📝 Shifting Attitudes and Awareness
Girls not only gained knowledge but also shifted their perspectives on readiness for parenthood. More participants identified their late twenties to early thirties as the right age to start a family, and many revised upward their estimates of child-rearing costs. This demonstrates a deeper understanding of the emotional, financial, and social responsibilities of family life.
💬 What Girls and Teachers Said
Participants described the workshops as fun, practical, and empowering, with activities that encouraged reflection and open discussion. They praised the trainers for being approachable and supportive, creating a safe space to ask questions. Teachers gave equally strong endorsements, unanimously agreeing the workshops were engaging, relevant, and highly beneficial. Many requested program expansion to younger grades and additional topics such as online safety and digital risks.
The activities were fun and engaging!— Feedback from participantI got to explore and learn more about myself, as well as understand family planning — including being ready physically, mentally, and financially, preventing STIs, and knowing where to seek support.
📈 Lasting Impact
Each girl received a Student Kit with learning materials, an income–expense record book, and a piggy bank to encourage saving between workshops. In the next module, students will revisit their savings, reinforcing the link between reproductive decision-making and financial planning.
📢 Looking Ahead
The Family Planning Workshop gave girls the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make informed decisions about their health and futures. By combining reproductive health with financial literacy and self-reflection, the program helps build stronger foundations for healthier, more empowered young women in Northeastern Thailand.
