For many students, financial literacy is something they hear about — but rarely have the chance to practice.

In today’s world, this gap can leave girls more vulnerable. Financial decisions no longer happen only at home, in shops, or at school. They also happen online — through mobile banking, social media, digital payments, online shopping, and offers that may look attractive but carry hidden risks.

For girls with limited access to practical financial education, online scams, suspicious investment offers, and financial fraud can be difficult to recognize.

This is why the Better Me for Girls Financial Planning workshop goes beyond basic lessons on saving and budgeting.

Through simulations, group challenges, and real-life scenarios, students practice making financial decisions, identifying risks, and thinking through the consequences of their choices.

They explore questions such as:

  • How do I know whether an online offer is trustworthy?
  • What should I do if I receive a suspicious message about money?
  • How can I protect myself from scams or risky financial decisions?
  • Where can I seek help if I face financial fraud?

For many girls, this was the first time financial learning felt connected to their everyday lives.

They learned that financial planning is not only about saving money. It is also about staying safe, asking questions, checking information, and making informed decisions before taking action.

By the end of the workshop, participants reported stronger understanding of budgeting, saving, financial risks, and where to seek support. Teachers also noticed that students were engaged, reflective, and more willing to discuss real-life financial situations.

When learning becomes real, it does not stay only in the classroom.

It becomes knowledge girls can use to protect themselves, support their future, and make safer choices in a changing world.
